I have been employed gainfully in the Broadcasting profession since 1975, back when there were no electronic graphics or newsroom computers, and much of the news was still shot and edited on a substance called "film."
For the past 16 years, I've been on the staff of WLS-TV in Chicago, which is owned by ABC, Inc., a division of The Walt Disney Company. A disclaimer is necessary here: Opinions expressed here are my own, and do not in any way represent those of my employers.
I'm the associate producer of the 4:00pm, 4:30pm and 6:00pm newscasts. I write the Chicago Jeopardy feature seen each weekday in our 4:00 hour, in addition to other news and features. I am represented by Local 41 of the National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians (NABET), part of the Communications Workers of America. I, along with my union brothers and sisters, have been working without a contract since March 31, 1997.
